Leafcutter Ants
Rust-colored ants in many sizes, with spines on the thorax. You'll see crescent-shaped mounds and bare trails leading to shrubs and trees.
Quick answerMagic Pest & Lawn treats leafcutter ants in Austin and 26 nearby towns as their own treatment, quoted before we start. Text a photo to 512-203-0525 for a quick quote.
Signs you have them
- Plants stripped bare overnight
- Lines of ants carrying leaf pieces
- Several crescent mounds scattered across the yard
- Trails active at night and on cool days
Why it matters
One colony can strip young trees, roses, and vegetable gardens in a few nights. Nests can run more than 15 feet deep.
How we treat it
We treat every mound and bait the foraging trails and colony. A second treatment two to three weeks later is part of the job, because these colonies are deep and large.
Good to knowIf we still see live activity within 30 days of the second treatment, we come back at no charge.
Prevention
- Report new mounds early, before the colony grows
- Protect young plants with trunk barriers while treatment works
