Weed Control · Austin, Texas
Pre-Emergent vs. Post-Emergent
Every lawn program uses both, timed to the season.
How to recognize it
Pre-emergent stops seeds from sprouting in the soil. Post-emergent kills weeds that are already growing. Neither one does the other's job.
Why it shows up
Pre-emergent does nothing to a weed already up. Post-emergent does nothing to seeds still in the soil.
How we treat it
Our PPF treatment combines post-emergent, pre-emergent, and fertilizer in one visit, twice a year: late February or early March, and late September or early October. A spot treatment and fertilizer in early summer rounds out about 3 visits a year. We don't treat lawns in July and August, when it's too hot.
What you can do
- Water pre-emergent in within 48 hours if it doesn't rain
- Wait 48 hours before and after treatment to mow
