Termites & Wood Pests · Austin, Texas
Ant vs. Termite Swarmers
Termite swarmers have straight antennae, a thick waist, and two pairs of equal-length wings. Ant swarmers have elbowed antennae, a pinched waist, and front wings longer than the hind wings.
Signs you have them
- A burst of winged insects indoors
- Discarded wings on windowsills
Why it matters
Ant swarmers mean a mature colony nearby. Termite swarmers indoors usually mean an active infestation in the structure.
How we treat it
Send us a photo and we'll help identify it. Ant swarmers are handled with ant treatment. For termite swarmers indoors, we'll refer you to a termite specialist, since we don't treat active infestations.
Prevention
- Save a few swarmers in a bag or photograph them for identification
- Vacuum the rest
